After accumulating from one to fourteen tanks between 1939 and when the Seattle Terminal closed in 1999, the first petroleum storage tank was demolished on Monday, December 5, 2005.

The reason for removing the tanks, at this time, is due to the very high price of commodity steel. The sale of the steel in the tanks will significantly defray the cost of their removal.

Pictured below, standing in front of the first tank to be sheared and demolished are:

November 2005:

Sometime in late November to early December, we will be demolishing and removing 14 decommissioned, above ground petroleum tanks, located at 2737 W. Commodore Way. The total capacity of these tanks, when filled, was around 182,000 barrels (which is equivalent to 7,664,000 gallons).

The 14 tanks were decommissioned in December 2002, when we closed our terminal operations, and have not been used since. Time Oil is no longer in the petroleum terminaling and storage business and there is no longer petroleum or other liquid products stored in the tanks or in their associated plumbing. There are no known environmental hazards involved in the removal process.

The reason for removing the tanks, at this time, is due to the very high price of commodity steel. The sale of the steel in the tanks will significantly defray the cost of their removal.

Watch here for updates as we go along.
